Treyarch nerfs, buffs select Call of Duty: Black Ops III weapons on all systems

Treyarch has released Call of Duty: Black Ops III‘s first major patch for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC, just over a week after the game’s official launch.

Early patch releases usually mean bug fixes, but that’s not the case here. Rather, Treyarch’s interested in making Black Ops III a more even, and equal experience by nerfing some weapons and buffing others. Essentially, weapons that are deemed too destructive are made less so. You know, it’s all about having fun.

Treyarch’s studio design director David Vonderwaar on Reddit suggested that “most of these edits were very small and range from clip sizes, to damage range, to ADS time in/out adjustments, modifications to Quickdraw Bonus(es) for LMGs, recoil reductions.

“The general philosophy is to tune in small increments either up or down, until we have a really healthy set of data and player opinion to work from,” he concludes.

In addition to the weapons revision, Treyarch has also altered the spawning system for Free for All and Gun Game modes, improving the locations. There’s nothing worse than respawning in the firing path of an enemy.

Overall, Call of Duty: Black Ops III has been Activision’s 2015 blockbuster, breaking sales records left, right and centre. It cracked US$550-million in the first three days of its launch, which Activision claimed was “the biggest entertainment launch of 2015.”
