Garmin has today announced its new runner’s watch, the Garmin Forerunner 25.
The watch, which the company is calling a “compact and easy-to-use GPS running watch with connected features” boasts a number of biometric trackers that monitor valuable variables. These include distance, pace, heart rate (when paired with a heart rate monitor addon) and calories burned.

Garmin Forerunner 25 also monitors how active the wearer is during the day, and prompt him or her to continue moving if inactive for too long.
“Whether you’re preparing for your first 5k or gearing up for a marathon, the Forerunner 25 is a great tool to keep runners motivated and on track with training,” notes Marc Bainbridge — Garmin Southern Africa’s fitness category manager.

“The Forerunner 25 keeps runners connected to family and friends while keeping them active by tracking data during runs and the rest of their day.”
The Garmin Forerunner 25 also doubles up as a traditional smartwatch, connecting to the wearer’s smartphone and alerts users of pending calls, emails and calendar notifications throughout the day. The watch will also report its tracking data to the smartphone, which can then be shared with family and friends using the Garmin Connect software. And if you fancy a swim, the Forerunner is also water resistant up to 50 metres.
Rather impressive still is the battery life, which varies from eight hours in intensive training mode, or “eight weeks in watch/activity tracking mode.”
The watch features an RRP of R3099, and will be sold in small and large form factors, with colour choices ranging from black/red, black/blue, black/purple and white/pink.
