Samsung is pushing the limits of mobile storage cards with the launch of its new 256GB EVO Plus microSD card.
The additional 56GB boost in standards comes after SanDisk launched its 200GB card in March. While that jump does seem arbitrary, it now means that this Samsung card is now the highest capacity unit in its class.

And speaking of class, transfer speeds are fairly brisk as well.
“The EVO Plus 256GB raises the bar for capacity and performance of microSD cards thanks to Samsung’s advanced V-NAND technology, offering high read and write speeds of up to 95MB/s and 90MB/s, respectively,” the company claims.
Granted, the use cases for the card will likely include video capture, which fits in perfectly alongside Samsung Galaxy S7, or its new Gear 360 camera.
But while it sounds brilliant, the price is the biggest blemish on the card. At US$250, you have just enough time to count those pennies before the card debuts in June 2016.
This also begs the question: how long until we see smartphone arrive natively with 256GB of internal storage?
