Eiji Aonuma, the game’s chief designer, explained that Nintendo wanted to do something markedly different this time around with Zelda, “breaking the conventions,” which includes a totally different animation style and gameplay.
Like its seriously apt name, the game is dense with a focus on landscape, natural beauty and of course, puzzles. It does seem to be an RPG/adventure game though, with the emphasis on the latter. The story arc of the new Zelda game is still an unknown.
Freedom of motion — at least in comparison to previous games — is vastly improved, with Link gaining gliding abilities. We imagine crafting could also play a role in the gameplay, but that’s simply speculation at this point.
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild will launch on both the Nintendo Wii U and Nintendo NX in 2017.
