Remix Mini Android PC relaunches in SA, but what about tablet?

It was briefly available via Takealot earlier this year, but Jide’s Remix Mini Android computer is now officially coming to South Africa thanks to Pinnacle.

The Chinese firm’s tiny Android box is branded as a PC, in no small part due to its Remix OS.

The Android Lollipop-based OS is heavily inspired by Windows, offering a taskbar, resizeable windows, a start menu of sorts, full keyboard/mouse support and minimise/maximise options for apps.

When and where can you get your hands on one though?

“The first Remix Mini stock lands during July and will be available through Pinnacle’s reseller channels and at all Makro stores in South Africa,” Pinnacle said in a press statement.

Pinnacle hasn’t revealed a price, but said that it would be approximately half the price of an entry-level PC. For what it’s worth, Jide’s website lists the device at $90.

As for technical details, the machine features a 1.2Ghz quad-core A53 chip, ethernet support, WiFi, Bluetooth, HDMI out, microSD slot and 1GB RAM/8GB storage or 2GB RAM/16GB storage options.

It’s not the only Remix-based device produced by Jide, as the rather fetching Remix Ultratablet, is also available internationally. Offering a very Surface-like experience, the tablet comes with a kickstand, keyboard cover and an older Tegra 4 chipset.

Dineo Letsholo, Remix product manager at Pinnacle, revealed that they are looking to bring the Ultratablet to market as well.

“The tablet is in the pipeline, but we do not have timelines as yet,” Letsholo told Gearburn.

Interested in the operating system? Jide actually allows you to download and install Remix OS on your PC. So if you’ve got an old desktop or laptop, this might be up your alley.
