Xiaomi reveals dual-camera Redmi Pro, Mi Notebook Air laptop

Chinese technology colossus Xiaomi said it would have some stuff to announce today, and it didn’t disappoint. The company revealed the Redmi Pro smartphone, coming in three variants.

The first two options feature the ten-core MediaTek Helio X20 processor and 3GB of RAM, while the top-end model has a slightly upgraded Helio X25 chip and 4GB of RAM.

The entry-level 32GB Redmi Pro will cost RMB1499 (R3212 as a straight conversion), the 64GB model will have a RMB1699 (R3940) price tag and the 128GB option has a price of RMB1999 (R4279). All devices come with a hybrid SIM slot, allowing you to go dual-SIM or single SIM with microSD card.

The Xiaomi Redmi Pro’s main selling point is a dual-camera setup

The Redmi Pro’s main selling point is a dual-camera setup, featuring a 13MP (Sony IMX258) and 5MP (Samsung) camera on the back for “dynamic, DSLR-quality bokeh”. In other words, you can change the depth of field effect after the fact, akin to the Huawei P9. The company says that the 5MP camera captures depth information, bringing to mind the HTC One M8.

The Redmi Pro also packs a 5MP front-facing camera, fingerprint scanner in the home button, USB Type-C, 5.5-inch full HD AMOLED display and a 4050mAh battery.

Xiaomi launches laptops

Another product range we’re not surprised to see is the Mi Notebook Air duo, being Xiaomi’s first laptops and running Windows 10.

The Mi Notebook Air 12.5 packs a full HD display, full metal body, power-sipping Intel Core M3 processor and 4GB of RAM. Other specs include a 128GB SSD and an SSD expansion slot.

The Mi Notebook Air 13.3 is the more powerful model though, delivering an i5 processor, 8GB of RAM and a Nvidia GeForce 940MX graphics card. Otherwise, the 13.3-inch model has a full HD screen, a 256GB SSD with expansion slot and Mi Band unlocking.

Both devices also pack two USB 3.0 ports, a USB Type-C port, earphone jack and HDMI port.

The 12.5-inch model has a suggested price of RMB3499 (R7495) and the 13.3-inch version has a RMB4999 price tag (R10 708).
