Xiaomi Mi Max phablet is coming to South Africa

Xiaomi Mi Max

It’s been a while since the Xiaomi Mi Max was first launched, but the massive phablet is making its way to South Africa. Well… if you take a look at local distributor MIA Group’s website.

The company has updated its website to feature the phablet, adding that consumers will get a free cover with each purchase.

Unfortunately, the company hasn’t added a price or release date, merely calling on people to sign up to be notified of availability.

As for specs, the phone is packing the same Snapdragon 650 chip as the Redmi Note 3, 3GB of RAM, a hybrid SIM slot, full HD screen, 16MP main camera, 4850mAh battery and rear-mounted fingerprint scanner.

The Xiaomi Mi Max is effectively a gigantic Redmi Note 3

It seems like the phone will only be available in silver with 32GB of storage, but the promotional materials do mention a gold option and 128GB of storage.

The promotional materials also brand the Xiaomi Mi Max as being VR-ready, but I’m not quite sure what kind of VR headset fits a 6.4-inch display…

We’ve contacted MIA Group for more information and will update the article when we receive more information.

Update: As Gearburn reader nuvi points out, the MIA website has been updated to feature a R4699 price tag.
