PlayStation 4 update 4.06: ‘quality’ update doesn’t add much

A new PlayStation 4 OS patched appeared on users’ machines today, but don’t expect it to shower your console with new, exciting features.

Instead, the 312MB patch 4.06 “improves the quality of the system performance”, Sony explains in its usually verbose patch notes. This brief update comes after update 4.05 which improved system stability.

While we’ve seen a fair share of PlayStation 4 updates in the past few weeks, the last major update debuted in September 2016.

This PlayStation 4 update improves the “quality” of system performance

Labeled 4.00, it brought a mild UI overhaul to the PS4 with a few new themes, folder support and support for HDR content.

It’s not too long ago that the PS4 was running on 2014’s version 1.75, which only then added Blu-Ray support, and content downloads.
