Should we expect refurbished Galaxy Note 7 in SA?

Samsung confirmed earlier this week that it would be selling refurbished Galaxy Note 7 devices in several unspecified markets.

The move is part of several steps the company will undertake to recycle and process the existing stock. The other two processes will see Samsung remove metals in devices and reuse several components.

“The markets and release dates will be determined accordingly,” Samsung said at the time.

But could we see these devices in South Africa? We asked Samsung SA’s representatives.

“Please note that Samsung SA never officially launched the Note 7 handset in the market and therefore the statement is not applicable to our market,” Samsung SA marketing director Dr. Michelle Potgieter told Gearburn.

Of course, the Note 7 was tantalisingly close to a South African release, but the first recall initially delayed the launch. The second recall then saw Note 7 sales halted around the world.

“At this point in time we cannot speculate on which markets will be selected. Should we receive any additional information pertaining to local release from HQ in this regard we will share with media,” the Samsung executive added.

Samsung is also gearing up for their next flagship launch today, in the form of the Galaxy S8. Expect a high screen/body ratio, Exynos 8895 or Snapdragon 835 chip, Bixby assistant and much more.
