There have been a few leaks already for the Moto Z2 Play, being the sequel to the long-lasting Moto Z Play. Now, China’s TENAA regulatory body has published details of the phone to its website.
The filing shows a phone with a 5.5-inch full HD AMOLED screen and a 2820mAh battery (seemingly reduced from the original’s 3000mAh pack). Other specs include 4GB of RAM, 64GB of storage, Android 7.1.1, a 12MP main camera and a 5MP selfie shooter.

However, Lenovo claims on Twitter that the phone will indeed be packing a 3000mAh battery. Interesting…
It’s unclear what kind of chip the handset will be packing, short of the filing revealing an octacore 2.2Ghz processor. It is feasible that the newly announced Snapdragon 630 could be used in the Z2 Play, given the fact that the predecessor (Snapdragon 625) was used in the original Moto Z Play.
The new chip packs the same A53 cores as the older processor (with max clock speeds going from 2Ghz to 2.2Ghz) as well as the same 14nm manufacturing process, but features slightly upgraded graphics bits.
The Snapdragon 630 delivers machine learning and computer vision smarts, 4K/30fps video recording and Quick Charge 4.0. In fact, Qualcomm claims a phone with the Snapdragon 630 chip can be charged to 50% capacity in just 15 minutes.
In any event, we quite liked the Moto Z Play, owing to its battery life and Moto Mod system. We did however take issue with the ho-hum camera and high price tag.
