After the disappointment that was No Man’s Sky, PS4 gamers have another sandbox space adventure to look forward to in the form of Elite: Dangerous, released this week.
Using the real-world Milky Way as a backdrop, players can explore star systems and planets based on NASA data. Here, you’ll be trading, fighting, pirating, exploring and undertaking various missions.

In an otherwise mundane AMA session on reddit, Elite creator and Frontier Developments head David Braben elaborated on what you can expect from the PS4 version. For starters, players can expect improvements on the PS4 Pro.
“You can choose to optimise for performance or image quality. Both are big improvements, and it is better frame rate all round for either setting,” Braben wrote, without delving into details.
Elite: Dangerous is out now on PS4, some time after its Xbox One and PC release
The PC version of Elite: Dangerous also boasts support for virtual reality, but what about PSVR?
“I’m a huge fan of VR, and have been carefully following it from day one. The most important thing is it is a good experience, and we’re not there yet in terms of the quality. It’s certainly something we’d like to consider, but quality is vital.”
Frontier’s website also touched on the PSVR question in an earlier FAQ.
“It’s definitely something we’re looking into, but we have nothing to announce for launch,” read an excerpt from the website.
It’s a pity that the game doesn’t have PSVR support out of the box, being an ideal candidate for the technology. And the results can be awe-inspiring too.
