Huawei’s HiSilicon has made impressive strides with its mobile processors. Last year’s Kirin 950 saw the company take a big step up in the CPU stakes, while the Kirin 960 took a similarly large leap in graphics performance. Now, it seems like HiSilicon is going all-in on the Kirin 970 chip.
According to My Drivers and a post on Weibo, the new chip has entered mass production, as the Huawei Mate 10’s release date looms.

My Drivers adds that Huawei is readying up to 40 million chips for production, suggesting that Honor devices and the P11 will be using it as well. After all, the Mate 9 (review) reached five million units sold after four months, while the P9 (review) and P9 Plus hit just over 12 million…
The publication also claims that the new chip will be an “artificial intelligence chip”. We saw Huawei previously dabble with machine learning before, using the tech to keep things smooth over time as part of its EMUI 5 system update.
As for the Mate 10 itself? Recent reports found that Huawei trademarked the term ‘EntireView Display’, hinting that the Mate 10 will have a high screen/body ratio.
