Last year’s LG V20 (review) was arguably one of the best all-round phones for audio recording and playback, offering quad-DAC hardware and extensive audio-related features.
Now, LG has announced that the V30 will be packing an upgraded quad-DAC, enabling two new features in the form of digital filters and sound presets.

“Digital filters, normally only available in expensive digital audio players, improves the pre- and post-ringing of the impulse response with filters that can be customised to personal tastes. In developing sound presets, LG engineers studied the characteristics of popular tones and identified the best combination of sounds to create four optimal pre-programmed settings: enhanced, detailed, live and bass,” the Korean company wrote on its website.
LG added that it’s also worked on a solution to enable better high resolution audio streaming, in conjunction with partner MQA. “Music fans can enjoy high-resolution audio without the inconvenience of downloading huge files or using up large amounts of mobile data to get great sounding music through the V30,” the company claims.

Finally, the HD audio recorder app will allow for the phone’s receiver to be used as a microphone.
“The RAM [receiver as a mic – ed] can record loud sounds clearly, so the LG V30 can record a wider dynamic range of sounds, from a whisper to a thunderstorm, without distortion.”
LG’s relationship with B&O will continue with the new phone, as the audio company will apparently “fine-tune” the phone’s audio and bundle a pair of B&O earphones with the device.
We’ll see the entire package on 31 August, when the V30 is apparently scheduled for a reveal at IFA 2017.
LG’s V20 delivered a quad-DAC in South Africa, but the technology gave us a skip with the G6. We’ve asked LG South Africa about the V30’s quad-DAC availability and will update the article when we receive a response.
