Downwell (paid – Android, iOS)
It’s not a new title, but a discount on a quality game is always worth celebrating, isn’t it?
Downwell is a “2D platformer vertical shmup rogue-like-like-like action game”, according to the developers. In plain English, this means you’ll be travelling down a well, fighting off all sorts of monsters and collecting various items along the way.
Downwell is currently R14 on Android and R15 on iOS.
South Park Phone Destroyer (free – Android, iOS)
A videogame tie-in to a popular property that features real-time strategy and PVP battles? How unique (not really).
In any event, you’ll be using a card-based system to drag and drop characters onto the battlefield, using various powers to defeat your enemies. And there is a single-player campaign if you don’t care for PVP stuff.
Phone Destroyer is free but the card system, locker/lootcrate setup and energy mechanics point to in-app purchases down the line.
Football Manager Mobile 2018 (paid – Android, iOS)
Addicted to the Football Manager franchise? Then you probably know that the 2018 iteration is out for mobile devices.
You’ll be guiding various teams to glory, signing and firing players/staff, coming up with strategies, scouting young talent and more.
Football Manager Mobile 2018 is R140 on Android and iOS.
Corporate Salmon (free – iOS)
Is this the best game about salmon flopping around? Is it the only game about salmon flopping? Either way, Corporate Salmon is the latest iOS hit.
The title has you flopping up the corporate staircase (because ladders would be too difficult), battling to stay on the same screen while collecting coins and dodging hazards. And yes, you can use said coins to buy new suits for your fishy friend.
Corporate Salmon is free to play, but you can splash out on an ad-free version. Then again, the ads are never in-your-face or anything like that…
Words with Friends 2 (free – Android, iOS)
The original game became quite a sensation a few years ago, allowing people to play a game akin to Scrabble with their friends and loved ones.
Words with Friends 2 offers more of the same gameplay, but also offers a few more modes (solo challenge, lightning round etc) and 50 000 new words.
Words with Friends 2 is free to play on both of the major mobile platforms.
