Inside (free to start – iOS)
Probably the most critically acclaimed game on the list, Inside is the brainchild of Limbo developer Playdead. So what does that mean?
This generally equates to a side-scrolling platform/puzzler with a spooky atmosphere, dark future and some fantastic controls. You also have a body jumping mechanic of sorts, making for some fiendish puzzles.
You can play the beginning of Inside for free, splashing out R110 thereafter.
Oddworld: New ‘n’ Tasty (paid – Android, iOS)
Another notable console title comes to mobile in recent days, in the form of New ‘n’ Tasty. What should you expect, then?
In case you didn’t know, this entry is a remake of PS1 era title Oddworld: Abe’s Oddysee. But expect much better graphics, new camera angles, quick saves, gamepad support and leaderboards.
New ‘n’ Tasty has a R130 price on iOS, while Android users will be paying R115. Do note that the game has pretty solid requirements on the latter — read the Play Store listing for more info.
First Strike (free – Android)
The game has been available for yonks now, but payment-averse players can finally enjoy the game thanks to an ad-supported release.
Yep, as spotted by Android Police, the nuclear strategy game no longer requires payment to download. And it’s worth checking out, as you choose a nuclear power and walk the tight rope between winning an arms race and keeping humanity alive.
First Strike is free to play on Android, while iOS users will still need to pay R60.
T20 Card Cricket (free – Android, iOS)
Another noteworthy cricket-themed game has come to mobile devices, but it’s not quite what you think…
T20 Card Cricket is essentially a card-matching game, as you match two ‘6’ cards to hit a six, two ‘4’ cards to hit a standard boundary and so on. The game incorporates cricket rules in a solid way, such as Howzat cards to get your batsman out, a mechanic for picking cards against spin bowlers and so forth.
T20 Card Cricket is free to play, but it has splash ads and superpower cards that can be purchased. Ugh. But it’s a fun time-waster nonetheless.
