The Nintendo Switch has enjoyed a fantastic launch year thus far, being the most popular console in the USA for several months running.

Then there were the games, offering everything from Breath of the Wild and Super Mario Odyssey to Golf Story and Doom. It’s hard to argue that the console isn’t the hottest thing in gaming.

And this week, Nintendo announced that the console has hit the 10 million unit sales mark, crossing the line after less than a year on the shelves.

The news comes a few weeks after the video game company upped its first year sales target from 10 million units to 14 million units.

By comparison, the Wii U console shifted 13.5 million units as of September 2017. In other words, we can expect the new Nintendo machine to surpass Wii U sales in the next few months.

It is however interesting to note that Nintendo’s own stats show a much higher software attach rate for the Wii U. That is, Wii U owners bought more games than Switch owners thus far. However, these stats could drastically change with the latest data.
