But Huawei also has an Android Go phone in the works, an executive told Gearburn.

The lightweight take on Android is optimised for phones with 1GB of RAM or less, while also using less storage than traditional versions of Google’s platform.
“It means that we can provide 1GB RAM plus 16GB ROM, so that means with Android Go… consumers that use such a phone, they’ll still have good performance, at least for two years,” said Jim Xu, president of marketing and sales service at Huawei’s consumer business group.
Huawei will introduce a device running Android Go in the coming months
As for Huawei software customisations, Xu said the device would have a “very simple EUI”.
The executive added that the phone would be launched in “the first half of this year”.
