Huawei’s Honor sub-brand silently launched in South Africa last week, bringing the mid-range Honor 7X and Honor 9 Lite to the country.
The two devices are very similar to the R4000 Huawei P Smart, save for a few tweaks here and there. But the sub-brand also plays host to some high-end wares, such as the recent Honor View 10 and Honor 9.

However, you shouldn’t hold your breath for these top-shelf phones anytime soon. “Will we see high-end Honor phones in the country, such as the Honor View 10 and Honor 9?” we asked the sub-brand in an emailed query.
“We will introduce some products to South Africa step by step. The range of product will focus on mid and low end,” read a response by Chris Sun, vice president of Honor for the Middle East and Africa.
Sun explained that the division will focus on building “brand awareness of (the) Honor X and Honor C” ranges. The C and X models are essentially the entry level and mid-range Honor handsets. The executive says the Honor range in South Africa “will not affect Huawei high end model sales”, further suggesting that there are no plans for Honor flagships.
The Honor range is available from Takealot as well as TFG.
