The Cupertino company on Monday launched its iPhone 8 series (PRODUCT)RED Special Edition, keeping up a lengthy tradition of relaunching their devices coated in scarlet. But it’s not all about the colour.
“This special edition (PRODUCT)RED iPhone features a stunning red and black color combination and also offers customers the opportunity to make an impact in fighting the spread of HIV and AIDS,” wrote Greg Joswiak, Apple’s VP of product marketing.

Notably, the Red iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus will be available in 64GB and 256GB storage guises, and will start from US$699.

And although the iPhone X isn’t quite getting a similar lick of paint, it will receive a “(PRODUCT)RED iPhone X Leather Folio”.
Yeah. A red case. Exciting.
It’s clear that although philanthropy is a chief driver in Apple’s motivation for relaunching a Red device, the exclusion of the iPhone X does suggest it wants to give users a better incentive to purchase the iPhone 8 series.
Annoyingly, the special edition Red iPhone 8 series won’t be available in South Africa initially, but will be sold in other territories across the globe beginning today.
