Huawei’s 4 Y Series phones get South African pricing

We have the Mate series, the P series, and now Huawei’s refreshed Y Series is heading for South Africa too.

The company’s “youth” range includes four devices, from the Huawei Y3 2018 at the lowest end to the Huawei Y7 2018 heading up the range. But don’t expect these devices to cost a fortune.

Pricing spans between R999 and R2999, with each of the four devices offering something a little different.

Huawei Y3 2018 is the company’s first Android Go device, running Android’s lightweight version of Android Oreo. It’s not wildly exciting otherwise, sporing a 5.0-inch 854×480 screen, a Mediatek MT6737M chipset, 1GB of RAM and 8GB of storage. There’s also an 8MP snapper at the back, and a 2MP selfie camera. All this is powered by a relatively small 2280mAh battery. It’ll retail for R999.

The Huawei Y5 Prime 2018 will cost R1000 more than its Android Go sibling, and run Huawei’s EM UI on top of Oreo. Featuring a 5.45-inch screen and a larger resolution of 1440×720, the phone also sports a 13MP rear camera, a MediaTek MT6739 chipset, 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage. There’s a 3020mAh battery powering the package.

Third on the wrung, the Huawei Y6 2018 will retail for R2499, and feature a 5.7-inch screen with a 1440×720 resolution, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 chipset, with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage. It receives a 3000mAh battery and a single 13MP rear camera.

Finally, the “flagship” of the range is the Huawei Y7 2018. Retailing for R2999, the device is powered by the Snapdragon 430 chipset, boasts 32GB of internal storage and 3GB of RAM. It also features a 6-inch screen with the same resolution as its Y5 and Y6 siblings. It also boasts a 3000mAh battery, and dual rear cameras at 13MP and 2MP.

All devices feature support for a microSD card slot, and all have 3.5mm headphone jacks. and dual SIM support. Additionally, all devices bar the Y3 support Face Unlock and long 18:9 display formats.
