Nokia’s latest challenger to the budget smartphone market has arrived in South Africa.
The Nokia 3.1 is the company’s new Android One smartphone, priced below the R3000 mark. In this section of the market its competing against the likes of Xiaomi and Huawei, but judging by its spec sheet, it should put up a good fight.

On that note, the Nokia 3.1 sports an aluminium frame, a 1440×720 5.2-inch screen, and a coating of Corning Gorilla Glass 3 on its front.
Internally, Nokia’s using the octa-core Mediatek MT6750 chipset, 2GB of RAM and 16GB of storage space. There is a 3GB/32GB model, but it won’t be offered in South Africa.
At the rear, there’s a 13MP autofocus camera, up front an 8MP snapper is in charge of selfies. And powering everything is a 2990mAh battery.
The phone will be updated to Android 9 Pie.
The phone will be offered in two colour variants: black/chrome and blue/copper and will retail for R2299 from Vodacom, MTN and other retailers.
