This is when your smartphone will get Android Pie [Updating…]

It’s that time of the year when users frantically mash their update buttons hoping for Google’s latest iteration of Android. Android Pie is now officially in the wild and stable, but lacks a slew of features shown off at I/O 2018.

While the OS is now available for some devices from today, when can you expect to see a Pie update his your smartphone?

We break down expectations brand-by-brand in alphabetical order below.

Note: Those manufacturers who took part in the beta programme, may push updates to their devices sooner than others.

“Sony Mobile, Xiaomi, HMD Global, Oppo, Vivo, OnePlus and Essential, as well as all qualifying Android One devices, will receive this update by the end of this fall,” Google notes in an update.

Essential

Status: Available

If you have an Essential Phone, expect to get Android Pie the day of release. That is as early as today in some areas of the world.

“We’re proud to bring Android 9 Pie to Essential Phone the same day it’s released! Check your phone now for the update,” the company tweeted on Monday.

Google Pixel

Status: Available

Android Pie is available for Google’s Pixel smartphones at the time of writing. This includes the original Pixel, the Pixel 2 and 2 XL.

Check back for regular updates to this article as more information is released by individual manufacturers.

HTC

Status: Confirmed (via official announcement)

For those who still use HTC devices, there’s some good news directly from the horse’s mouth.

“We’re pleased as pie to confirm updates to Android Pie for the HTC U12+, U11+, U11, and U11 life (Android One). Timeframes for roll-out will be announced in due course,” the company tweeted.

That’s pretty impressive, considering that HTC was not part of the beta programme.

Huawei

Status: Confirmed (via forum post)

And official from Huawei’s team has confirmed in a Vmall forum that the Huawei Mate 10 Pro and P20 series are currently undergoing Android Pie testing.

The Android 9.0 upgrade plan for the rest of the products is also under evaluation. After confirmation, it will be announced one after another,” the post continues.

Nokia

Status: Confirmed (via official announcement)

Nokia’s official Twitter account confirmed that Android Pie will be heading to at least five of its devices in the coming weeks.

“Android Pie will be available for the Nokia 3, 5, 6 and 8. Roll-out will be phased as usual to secure quality delivery,” the company tweeted.

The Nokia 7 Plus — part of the Android One programme — will also receive the update.

The company didn’t specify a timeline for the updates in its tweet.

Sony

Status: Confirmed (via report)

According to GizChina, at least six Sony devices will be getting the Android Pie update by the end of November. The rollout will begin in September.

The list includes: The Sony Xperia XZ2, Xperia XZ2 Compact, Xperia XZ2 Premium, Xperia XZ1, Xperia XZ1 Compact, and Xperia XZ Premium.

Xiaomi

Status: Ported (via report)

Some people just can’t wait for their device to receive the official update. Xiaomi users in particular fall within that bracket.

According to XDA Developers, Android Pie for four older devices, namely the Mi 3, Mi 4, Mi 4X and Redmi Note 4 is now unofficially available.

The company’s Mi Mix 2S was also part of the Pie beta programme, so expect it too to receive an official update within the coming weeks.
