Forget mirrorless cameras, the real competitive space at present are printers that spit out pocket-sized polaroid-inspired snaps from your smartphone or memory card. HP has one, Fujiflim has one, and now Canon is bringing one to South Africa too.

Called the Zoemini, the portable printer will be available in South Africa from next week, the company announced at an event in Cape Town on Tuesday.

Using zero-ink film in a 2×3 inch size format, the Canon Zoemini is described by the company as the “ultimate accessory for your mobile device”.

“Snap a photo, slip on a vintage filter, add AR and get instant sticky print-outs, ready to peel off and give your things a personal touch,” it adds in its marketing material.

The Zoemini itself weighs 160 grams, occupies an 18cm by 9cm area, can connect to your smartphone via Bluetooth (via a mobile app), and can also print tiled images using four or nine prints. And yes, those “peel off” images also transform into stickers.

Canon’s Zoemini will be priced at R1999, and will be available in black, while and rose gold.

The media, which will be sold in packs of 20 and 50, will range between R240 and R429.
