The eagerly awaited Red Dead Redemption 2 will be released at the end of October, but a month after, developer Rockstar Games announced that it will launch Red Dead Online.
“Red Dead Online is an evolution of the classic multiplayer experience in the original Red Dead Redemption”, said Rockstar in an announcement. The online experience is based on the sequel, coming a whole eight years after the original Xbox exclusive game.

The online game will be released as a public beta initially, but Rockstar promises to keep fans updated with more.
“Using the gameplay of the upcoming Red Dead Redemption 2 as a foundation, Red Dead Online will be ready to be explored alone or with friends, and will also feature constant updates and adjustments to grow and evolve this experience for all players,” the developers note further.
If you own a copy of Red Dead Redemption 2, either on Xbox One or PS4, then you’ll have access to play. It is unclear if you can have paid access to the online world without purchasing the sequel.
In an interview with IGN, Rockstar said that players can expect a game that “that combines multiplayer and cooperative gameplay and narrative components in a huge open world”.
