Gamers competing in Telkom’s VS Gaming Masters and Championships tournaments at Comic Con Africa this weekend can look forward to a 1.85-million prize pool.
According to a release by VS Gaming, this represents the largest prize pool ever at a South African esports event.

But don’t expect to win that entire sum if you walk away with a crown though.
The winners of the VS Gaming CS:GO Masters title will bag R200 000, with the runner up taking home half.
The total prize pool for the Masters bracket is set at R1.24-million.
Additionally, eight other games will form the basis of the Championships, with gamers competing in the likes of Dota 2, LoL, Battlefield 4 and Call of Duty: World War II on the PS4, Overwatch, Rocket League, Hearthstone and Quake Champions.
The prize pool across the Championships amounts to R603 400.
“With this being the highest prize pool on record for gaming in South Africa, Telkom VS Gaming is cementing the fact that we’re not only about broadening the scope of gamers but contributing largely towards the growth of esports,” said Wanda Mkhize, Telkom VS Gaming spokesperson.
Comic Con Africa is set to take place from 14 to 16 September at Kyalami in Johannesburg.
