The Fitbit Charge 3 is now official and available globally, the California-based firm announced this week.
The company’s calling its latest tracker its “smartest”, pushing a number of key specifications a little bit further than the previous model.

For starters, Fitbit claims that the Charge 3 will last up to a week on a single charge — two days longer than the Charge 2.
Physically, it retains the Fitbit logo below the triangular face, with a monochrome screen. And gone are the hardware buttons. Instead, Fitbit has opted for a touch-sensitive inductive unit on the Charge 3.
It too, like the Ionic and the Versa, has an SpO2 sensor — which monitors oxygen levels in the blood — as well as the company’s PurePulse heart rate monitor.
These, the company claims, work in tandem while the wearer sleeps to track sleep quality and breathing disruptions.
Beyond battery life, and the addition of the SpO2 sensor, not much has changed.
The Charge 3 retains Fitbit’s software setup, including the smartphone app and dashboard. Here, users can monitor their fitness metrics.
The company’s bringing two versions of the band to South Africa.
Initially, only the base Charge 3 with two finishes — black/graphite and blue grey/rose gold — will be available, retailing for R2999 at the time of writing.
From November, a Fitbit Charge 3 Special Edition will be shipped, which includes support for Fitbit Pay. It will be priced at R3499.
