Google has confirmed that the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL will gain external microphone support.
IsaacOnCamera, a Google employee on the Pixel User Community page, broke the news late last week.

“I have been keeping an eye on this thread since the beginning and have good news,” he wrote. “At the same time as Pixel 3 launch (October 18th), we will introduce support for Android-compatible plugged-in external microphones in the default camera app for all Pixels.”
It’s not clear if “all Pixels” includes the third generation only, or previous devices like the original Pixel and Pixel 2.
Nevertheless, the news is a boon for videographers and musicians who have long complained about the Pixel’s lack of external microphone support
There’s no word yet on which microphones will be supported.
