Good bye xXX-_-XXx, hello new, mature PlayStation Network ID.

On Wednesday, Sony flipped the switch on the PlayStation Network’s ID changing system, which has been in preview since October, finally allowing gamers to change their decades-old gamer tags from something your 11-year-old self found funny, to something a little more mature.

Users can change their IDs through their consoles or via a web browser, however there is a small catch.

“All PS4 games originally published on or after 1st April 2018 have been developed to support the online ID change feature, but we do not guarantee that they are fully compatible with the feature,” the company writes in its FAQ. These titles have been tested, and do work with the change.

It does however note that “the large majority of most actively played PS4 games support the feature” so it may just be worth your while.

How to change your PlayStation Network ID

As mentioned, you can either change your ID using your console, or your web browser. To do this:

PS4:

  • Go to “Settings” on your PS4.
  • Select “Account Management”, then “Account Information”,  “Profile”, and finally “Online ID”.
  • Type in a new ID. PlayStation will also give users a list of suggestions.
  • Follow the screen prompts to confirm the tweak.

Browser:

  • You’ll need to sign in to your .
  • Once signed in, select “PSN Profile” in the menu.
  • Select the “Edit” button that’s next to your ID.
  • Type in a new ID. PlayStation will also give users a list of suggestions.
  • Follow the screen prompts to confirm the tweak.

The first ID change is free, however Sony will charge you $4.99 for every change after if you’re a PlayStation Plus member, or $9.99 if you’re not.

The changes will also only affect those on PlayStation 4 consoles, not PlayStation 3 or Vita.
