Apple Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo believes that two of Apple’s 2020 iPhones will feature rear time-of-flight cameras and 3D sensors, a report by MacRumors revealed on Monday.

The time-of-flight (ToF) system will allow the device to map 3D surroundings by calculating the amount of time it takes for light to bounce of objects.

A number of current smartphones use the ToF tech in their cameras, including the Huawei P30 Pro and Samsung Galaxy S10 5G.

Such a set up will improve the iPhone’s AR capabilities, which currently users infrared technology in its True Depth front-facing cameras.

Kuo further believes that all three 2020 iPhones will feature front-facing Face ID cameras as well.

It’s not clear if Apple’s 2020 iPhones will also include a square camera array, as revealed by multiple leaks thus far for the upcoming 2019 crop of iPhones expected to launch this September.
