Well, well, well. Look what’s now available in South Africa: a new flagship smartphone from Chinese company Xiaomi.

The firm’s Mi 9, which debuted in February, is now listed on the local Xiaomi distributor’s website, Mobile in Africa (MIA). And at the list price, it may be the most attractive flagship smartphone deal in the country right now.

Its screen measures 6.39 inches from corner to corner, with a 2340×1080 resolution, and support for HDR10. Mated to that is a 6GB wad of RAM, and 128GB of internal storage. The phone doesn’t have a microSD card slot.

This could well be the most attractive smartphone deal in South Africa right now

The device also features a triple rear camera with a Sony-made primary sensor of 48MP mated to an f/1.75 aperture lens, a 12MP 2x optical zoom f/2.2 camera, and a 16MP macro camera with f/2.2 aperture. Up front, there’s a 20MP f/2.0 aperture front camera too.

The Xiaomi Mi 9 also sports NFC, USB-C for charging and data, and a 3300mAh battery. There’s no headphone jack though, but there is an infrared blaster. It also runs on Android 9.0 Pie below its MiUI skin.

MIA’s listing the piano black phone for R9999, making it some R1500 cheaper than the LG G8S, which also sports a Snapdragon 855 but just R1000 more expensive than the outgoing Mi 8.

Quite a tasty deal, truth be told.
