Apple’s upcoming iPhones could have pretty confusing names if you’re used to the current convention.
French tech site iPhonesoft (spotted by 9to5Mac) got hold of a document from iPhone case seller ESR, suggesting that the names of all three devices could be tweaked slightly.

Firstly, you’ll be happy to know that there’ll be an iPhone 11, replacing the iPhone XR as the basic device. It’s set to feature a 6.1-inch display.
More interestingly though are the names of the other two phones. ESR believes the current iPhone XS replacement will be called the iPhone 11 Pro. The iPhone XS Max successor be called the iPhone 11 Pro Max.
Talk about clunky. And interesting that Apple could be dropping the Roman numeral nomenclature for its 2019 devices.
Of course, this is what the case makers believe the product to be called, so it could simply be used to differentiate the devices. That said, case makers usually get information on devices well ahead of their launches, so don’t be too surprised if these names are official.
Apple’s set to launch all three in September, complete with the new squircle camera array at the rear.
