Samsung Galaxy A90 5G, the company’s ‘budget’ 5G smartphone, is now official

Just hours after the retail boxed and its specs leaked to the web, Samsung Korea has announced the official launch of the Samsung Galaxy A90 5G.

At this point, it’s easily Samsung’s cheapest 5G smartphone. And despite pricing not yet being announced, as an A-series device, we know it won’t cost more than the S10 5G or the Galaxy Fold.

So essentially what you have here is a gateway phone for users in 5G cities. And on paper it puts up a good fight.

Up front there’s a 6.7 inch sAMOLED display with a 2400×1080 resolution. It does have a notch which houses a 32MP f/2.0 aperture camera.

Around the back there’s a triple camera array, with a 48MP f/2.0 camera, an ultrawide 8MP f/2.2 camera, and a 5MP depth sensor.

The Samsung Galaxy A90 5G should be the company’s cheapest 5G smartphone when it launches

Beneath its skin, which can be available in (rather boring truth be told) black or white, lies a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 chipset, 6GB or 8GB of RAM, and 128GB of internal storage.

It does have a microSD card slot but lacks the headphone jack. Looks like Samsung’s sticking with this decision for good.

Samsung’s arming this device with a 4500mAh battery too for 5G users, USB-C for charging and data, a 25W fast charging system, and an under-screen fingerprint reader.

It arrives with Android 9 Pie, and OneUI.

All in all, the Galaxy A90 5G seems a much better deal than the Galaxy A80, especially if you can take advantage of its networking abilities.

As we mentioned earlier, there’s no pricing information, but Koreans can snag this device as soon as tomorrow.

There’s no word on when the Samsung Galaxy A90 5G will make its way to South Africa.
