Update: It’s official. LG on Monday announced the launch date and recommended retail price for its dual-screen LG G8X ThinQ smartphone.

The phone — as well as its secondary screen attachment — will be offered by Vodacom, MTN and Cell-C from November. It’ll cost buyers R15999.

Original article: LG earlier this month debuted its second dual-display smartphone in the form of the G8X ThinQ. This week, the company announced that it will head to South Africa in Q4 2019, just in time for the Christmas shopping season.

Pricing details and a concrete availability date were not provided.

The LG G8X ThinQ follows its first dual-screen smartphone, the LG V50 ThinQ, which launched in February this year. It’s now the third device to launch with the G8 moniker.

To that end, it still features the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 chipset with 6GB of RAM, 128GB of internal storage and a microSD card slot.

At the rear, the LG G8X has just two cameras: a 12MP f/1.8 snapper and a 13MP f/2.4 wide-angle snapper.

LG does however reduce the size of the screen’s notch compared to its other G8 models, adding a 32MP f/1.9 snapper to it too. Beefy.

A 4000mAh battery, 6.4-inch 2340×1080 OLED screen, a headphone jack, support for LTE-A networks, a USB-C port, and a single colour (Aurora Black) rounds off the offering.

Oh, and of course, there’s the second screen.

Taking the form of a cover attachment that slots into the phone’s USB-C port, the Dual Screen also features a 6.4-inch 2340×1080 display. It has a notch too, but doesn’t feature another camera.

On the cover’s outside, there’s another screen: a 2.1-inch black and white display for notifications and the time.

The screen’s hinge also allows the display to stop at whichever angle the user wishes.

The LG G8X ThinQ follows just months after the LG G8S ThinQ’s launch in South Africa, a smaller version of the G8 range.
