Telkom VS Gaming’s cutting the number of games offered to just three in 2020, and only CS:GO will be offered at Masters level. For Championship spoils, teams can register to compete in Dota 2 or League of Legends.

Teams unable to register will have a second opportunity later this year. Round two of registrations take place between 23 March and 5 April.

The 2020 format is tweaked slightly too. Three legs, or “micro-seasons”, will be played between March and August and the qualifying teams will be pushed through to the finals, also taking place in August.

For teams who competed in Overwatch, Rocket League, Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 or Quake Champions in 2019, you’ll have to settle for competing in cup competitions in 2020. These will nevertheless still garner support from Telkom.

“We will continuously review the number of entries into these cups and host additional cups for popular game titles,” said Wanda Mkhize, the head of executive Content for VS Gaming.

Telkom plans other esports leagues in 2020

Nevertheless, Telkom’s VS Gaming HSEL returns in 2020 for its third season, with CS:GO and League of Legends officially supported.

“The school teams will compete over the course of two legs and qualifying teams will be invited to compete at the HSEL Finals,” the company explained.

Additionally, the organiser also plans to debut mobile leagues under the Telkom Plus banner. The logistics of these leagues hasn’t been expounded, but they will be exclusive to Telkom users.
