LG and ZTE will not attend MWC 2020 due to coronavirus fears

Tech giants LG and ZTE have pulled out of MWC 2020 in Barcelona later this month due to coronavirus fears.

Both firms made their announcements on Tuesday.

LG’s decision to miss the event, it believes, will prevent “needlessly exposing” its employees to international travel, and, possibly, the virus.

It will host smaller events across 2020 to announce its products.

ZTE meanwhile, as a Chinese company, told The Verge it doesn’t want to make “people feel uncomfortable”. That’s some big courteousness considering MWC is the year’s biggest smartphone launch event.

HMD Global’s Nokia, Sony, Vivo, TCL and Alcatel, and Honor will all attend and host press conferences at the event at the end of the month.
