Fortnite is finally available to download from the Google Play Store.

Since 2018, fans of the battle royale game could only download the title from Fortnite‘s official website.

This allowed its developer Epic Games to avoid Google’s revenue cuts from Play Store downloads. However, this also had its disadvantages.

“Google puts software downloadable outside of Google Play at a disadvantage, through technical and business measures such as scary, repetitive security pop-ups for downloaded and updated software, restrictive manufacturer and carrier agreements and dealings,” Epic said in a statement.

Moreover, it also lamented Google’s marking third-party software as malware, and Google’s Play Protect system from blocking installation of apps from outside the store.

For these reasons, Epic caved, and now allows downloads of its game via Google’s store but it likely isn’t too happy about it.

That said, users can still download Fortnite from its official website too, but the move will make it much easier for first-time players, especially as countries’ citizens remain indoors, to install it.
