A console controller is a weirdly personal tech item. Some get used to designs they’ve used for years, while others want to see innovation each new generation.
So when Sony PlayStation on Tuesday unveiled the new controller for the PlayStation 5, you bet people had plenty to say about it.

Dubbed the “DualSense” the company’s building upon the success of the DualShock 4, which launched with the PS4 back in 2013.
To that end, it retains the side-by-side stick layout of previous PlayStation controllers, but adds adaptive triggers for L2 and R2, with haptic feedback added too.
The Share button is now also gone, replaced by a “create” button.
“With Create, we’re once again pioneering new ways for players to create epic gameplay content to share with the world, or just to enjoy for themselves,” PlayStation added.
Interestingly, the controller also sports a built-in microphone, which seems ludicrous for something that’ll be constantly moving in your hands, but PlayStation still suggests gamers get an actual headset for “longer periods” of play.
Finally, and aesthetically, it looks more Xbox controller than ever before. The demo images depict a largely white controller with black triggers and sticks. The touchpad is much larger than the PS4’s while the light bar now runs along its flanks.
It certainly is an acquired taste if you’re used to the more conservative design of the DualShock.
The DualSense, along with the PlayStation 5, is set to make its debut at the end of 2020, but no confirmed launch date has been given by Sony just yet.
