The newly launched televisions include the GX Gallery series, the real 8K 88-inch ZX Signature model, the wallpaper-thin WX series, as well as additional 8K and 4K TVs.
“Consumers will appreciate the sophisticated designs of our 2020 premium TVs and their ability to seamlessly integrate with, and elevate any space,” Lance Shaun Berger, LG‘s Home Entertainment National Sales Head, said in a statement.
Here are the details on the 2020 rollout of LG TVs, when they will be available in South Africa, and how much they will cost…
LG OLED TVs: Gallery series
The new GX Gallery series are OLED TVs that use a minimalistic design. Owners can mount these TVs flush against the wall due to their thin design.
The 65-inch model is only 2cm thin, according to LG.
OLED TVs can offer more nuanced and contrasting light and dark tones than traditional LEDs. Meanwhile, the thin form factor is possible due to OLEDs not requiring a backlight panel.
The 65-inch GX model (OLED65GX) launches in South Africa in July for a recommended price of R56 999.
LG’s largest OLED: ZX Real 8K
The LG OLED 88″ ZX Real 8K model is the largest OLED that LG offers. The large 8K television features hands-free voice control and a sculpture design.
The “real 8K” moniker refers to the TV meeting the industry definition for 8K resolution.
However, the TV also features upscaling for lower resolution content — which means you can watch non-8K content at an upscaled 8K resolution on the TV.
The 88-inch ZX Real 8K will launch later in South Africa than other TVs in the 2020 lineup. It will arrive in South Africa in September.
The local price is yet to be determined. But in the US it costs $29 999.99.
LG NanoCell televisions
LG has also rolled out two additional NanoCell televisions, which — like the new OLEDs — feature the new α (Alpha) 9 Gen 3 AI processor.
Both the 55-inch and 75-inch TVs will launch locally in July.
NanoCell TVs feature LED/LCD displays, with the new models offerings either 4K or 8K resolution. According to LG, NanoCell technology provides enhanced colour on displays and feature wide array dimming.
The 55-inch LG NanoCell 4K TV will cost R14 999, while the 75-inch NanoCell 8K TV will cost R94 999.
LG’s ‘wallpaper’ TV: OLED WX
The OLED WX television is dubbed the “wallpaper” TV due to the extremely thin form factor.
“At a depth of 3.8mm there is no thinner TV on the market,” LG says.
The OLED WX supports 4K resolution and HDR10.
The television will arrive in South Africa in September, with local prices TBA. In the US, the TV costs $4 999.99.
LG OLED TVs 2020: CX range
In terms of more traditional OLED form factors, LG is launching 65-inch and 55-inch CX models in South Africa.
These TVs feature the α9 Gen 3 AI Processor, webOS, and ThinQ AI, giving users access to a variety of smart features.
Both the 55-inch and 65-inch models launch in July.
The OLED 55 CX has a recommended price of R34 999. Meanwhile, the OLED 65CX has a recommended price of R54 999.
