Ring security cameras launch in South Africa

Amazon-owned company Ring has launched its indoor and outdoor smart home security cameras in South Africa — bringing new smart home devices to local customers.

Products now available locally include the Ring Indoor Cam, the Ring Stick Up Cam, and Ring video doorbells.

These smart home devices allow users to control the cameras with their smartphones via the Ring app.

Depending on the model, the cameras also enable two-way communication, motion-activated recording, and a siren.

Ring security cameras

Ring Africa is launching the Ring Indoor Cam and Ring Stick Up Cam in South Africa. These devices are indoor and outdoor cameras respectively.

The Ring Indoor Cam can only be used indoors and includes night vision, two-way audio, live feed monitoring, and motion-activated recording.

The Ring Stick Up Cam can be used either indoors or outdoors. It includes the same features as the indoor Ring cameras, but also has a wide viewing angle and supports both battery power and plug-in power.

The Ring Indoor Cam has a recommended price of R1 499 while the Ring Stick Up Cam will cost R2 499.

Ring video doorbells

In terms of Ring’s video doorbells, which function both as cameras and smart doorbells, the company is bringing the 2nd Gen Ring Video Doorbell and the Ring Video Doorbell 3 to South Africa.

The Ring Video Doorbell (2nd Gen) supports 2.4Ghz Wi-Fi connectivity, mobile alerts, live view, and the ability to answer your door from your smartphone or computer.

The Ring Video Doorbell 3 improves on the older model with support for both 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz Wi-Fi connectivity. It also has an adjustable motion detection zone and compatibility with Amazon Alexa.

The Ring Video Doorbell (2nd Gen) will retail for a recommended price of R1 999. Meanwhile, the Ring Video Doorbell 3 has a recommended price of R3 999.

Where to buy Ring cameras in South Africa

Rather than ordering cameras from the global Ring website, you will be able to buy the devices from local retailers.

According to Ring Africa, you can buy the products from Takealot, Builders Warehouse, iStore, Incredible Connection, and Leroy Merlin.

These Ring cameras are available in South Africa starting 14 September.
