Say hello to the iPhone 12 range: What to know about Apple’s newest smartphones

Apple announced its latest smartphones in a global event on 13 October, unveiling four devices as part of the new iPhone 12 range.

The iPhone 12 range includes the iPhone 12 mini, the iPhone 12, the iPhone 12 Pro, and the iPhone 12 Pro Max.

The range brings with it a series of new features, but it’s also the first range of Apple smartphones to support 5G connectivity.

iPhone 12 mini

The iPhone 12 mini is the most affordable entry in the new iPhone range, with prices starting at $699.

As the name implies, it’s also the smallest of the new iPhones — featuring a 5.4-inch display. It features the same A14 Bionic Chip that the rest of the iPhone range includes.

Other features include a dual 12MP main camera and dual SIM support with an eSIM.

In its introductory markets, the iPhone 12 mini will go on sale from 13 November, with pre-orders opening on 6 November.

iPhone 12

The standard iPhone 12 includes a larger 6.1-inch display, but many of the same specs as the mini variant.

This includes a 12MP dual camera and A14 Bionic chip.

While Apple does not provide the battery capacity for its iPhones, the iPhone 12 has a longer-lasting battery life than the mini.

The battery lasts up to 11 hours with streamed video playback, and up to 65 hours with audio playback.

The phone’s price starts at $799 globally. It is also due to go on sale earlier than the mini.

In its introductory markets, the phone will go on sale globally on 23 October, with pre-orders opening on 16 October.

iPhone 12 Pro

The iPhone 12 Pro is one of the more premium versions of the new iPhone, bringing with it more camera lenses and enhanced camera functionality, including a LiDAR Scanner.

“A state-of-the-art LiDAR Scanner means users can experience AR like never before, and also offers benefits to the camera with faster autofocus in low light and the introduction of Night mode portraits,” Apple said in a press release.

It is around the same size as the standard version of the smartphone, with a 6.1-inch display.

It also features higher storage capacity options, with a maximum of 512GB.

This version of the new iPhone launches globally on 23 October, with pre-orders opening on 16 October.

Its price will start at $999.

iPhone 12 Pro Max

This version of the iPhone is the largest in the latest range, providing a 6.7-inch display. It also has the longest battery life out of the new iPhones.

Like the Pro version, it features a LiDAR Scanner and a triple-lens main camera setup.

  • Processor: A14 Bionic chip

  • On-board storage: 128GB/256GB/512GB

It is also the most expensive of the new iPhones, with its price starting at $1 099.

Like other phones in the new series, it also supports 5G connectivity.

The Pro Max will launch later than the Pro — with availability set for 13 November for its introductory markets. Pre-orders for the device will open on 6 November.
