Epic Games has announced a new source of monetisation for its free-to-play battle royale title, with the introduction of the “Fortnite Crew” subscription.

Next week, Epic will be opening up a new black hole to consume your (or your parents’) hard-earned money. Starting 2 December, with the launch of  Fortnite Chapter 2 – Season 5, Epic will be launching Fortnite Crew.

According to Epic, this will be “the ultimate subscription offer for getting can’t-miss Fortnite content”.

This subscription deal will cost you a monthly fee of $11.99. That comes down to roughly R183 when directly converted, assuming the rate won’t be localised for South African audiences.

What does the Fortnite Crew subscription include?

The new subscription includes some of the other monetised offerings in Fortnite’s Battle Royale game mode, such as a seasonal Battle Pass. However, it also adds additional in-game currency and cosmetic items for players.

If you choose to jump on the upcoming monthly subscription deal, this is what you’ll get:

  • Battle Pass Included for the full Season
  • 1 000 V-Bucks each month
  • Receive a monthly Crew Pack – An exclusive Fortnite Crew Pack containing new outfit bundles. You will also get at least one matching accessory such as a glider, pickaxe or emote.

Epic has also revealed the first set of goodies to come with the starting subscription pack. On 2 December, Fortnite Crew subscribers will receive the all-new “Galaxia” outfit and style, and the Cosmic Llamacorn Pickaxe and Fractured World Back Bling.

Epic also adds that they will be announcing January’s exclusive subscription contents before the end of December.

Something to note though, Epic games does mention in their FAQ (linked below) that some countries, platforms, or available payment methods may not yet be supported at the time of launch, 2 December.

“If you’re unable to see the Fortnite Crew option in-game starting December 2nd, your platform, country (or combination of both) or available payment methods may not be supported at this time. We’ll keep working on adding more options as time goes on.”
