Earlier this year, Lenovo globally announced the Thinkpad X1 Fold, the world’s first foldable PC.
The company has since added that the new device will soon be landing on South African shores in early 2021.

According to Lenovo, the Thinkpad X1 leverages “the latest in foldable technology and connectivity to meet the requirements of agile working and staying connected while on-the-go”.
The X1 Fold is basically a powerful tablet PC that you can fold to enter its ‘laptop’ mode or to close it. With durable leather backing and multi-layer frames that protect the display, the X1 Fold can take a fair knocking, emphasising its focus on mobility.
The unique foldable design, built with multi-link torque hinge mechanics for smooth folding, allows the device to adapt to a variety of scenarios.
This includes easily propping it up for video calls, viewing media, or holding it like a book.
Lenovo Thinkpad X1 Fold specifications
The Lenovo Thinkpad X1 has 13.3-inch foldable 2K OLED display. It runs on an Intel Core i5 processor, with Intel Hybrid technology, and sports 8GB of DDR4 RAM.
It boasts a lightweight construction comprising a blend of alloys and carbon fibre. This brings the weight to a little under one kilogram.
This lightweight design is complemented by a leather folio cover that adds an elegant and sophisticated aesthetic to the device.
For those interested in high-speed internet connectivity, you can get your hands on a 5G-enabled version.

So when it lands on our shores, how much will the world’s first foldable PC/Windows tablet cost? It won’t be cheap.
Depending on your chosen configuration, current pre-order prices for the X1 Fold start at R69 999.
Those who opt for the pre-orders will also receive a Bluetooth Mini Fold Keyboard and Active Pen
