The Mini 40 forms part of the entry-level range of instant film cameras. The range includes other cameras such as the Mini 9 and Mini 11.
What is an Instax camera?
The camera uses contact sheets to print pictures, each measuring 62mm in length and 46mm in width. Photos take around 90 seconds to print.
The Mini 40 has a leatherette body with a silver frame, with Instax saying it’s meant to evoke a vintage aesthetic.
Though a retro-looking product, the Mini 40 features several modern touches. It has an Automatic Exposure function for improved picture taking. The function makes changes to the shutter speed and camera flash according to the shooting conditions. This makes for better pictures in both low-light and outdoor environments.
The Mini 40 also has a selfie mode for up-close shots. You activate the mode by pulling out the front edge of the camera lens after turning it on.
Battery-wise, the camera uses two AA batteries.
To go with the new camera, Fujifilm also offers a black case with matching stitching and a shoulder strap. Customers can buy the case accessory separately.
Fujifilm also introduced a new kind of print film to be used in its Instax cameras. The new prints have a stylised black border design that imitates contact sheets traditionally used by photographers in dark rooms.
How much will the Instax Mini 40 cost in South Africa?
The Fujifilm Instax Mini 40 instant camera will be available in stores from 21 April.
The recommended retail price for the camera is R1 399.
The new contact sheet print packs will also be available from 21 April. The packs each have ten prints and will cost R169.
