Telkom, Cell C, MTN and Vodacom price hikes in 2023

Telecoms company Telkom has announced it will increase prices as a result of the country’s high inflation rate.

The network provider is not the only one feeling the inflation pinch with prospects of ensuring long-term business sustainability.

On 1 April 2023 Telkom plans to up their fiber-to-home prices (FTTH), DSL, smart broadband plan subscriptions and voice product prices.

Expected price hikes stand at: 8% for DSL-only and DSL bundles, FTTH with an 11% increase, voice line and rental voice calling plans at 8.8%, Yep Products with a 7% increase while DSL and voice combined at a 8.4% increase.

The telecoms increase will also impact all mobile data bundles including out-of-bundle rates, sms, and data services.

On out-of-bundle voice rates users will see an increase from R 0.75 to R 0.80 per minute, with data rates increasing from R 0.32 to R 0.35 per MB.

MTN

Last week, MTN announced they too were upping their monthly subscription fees on consumer cellular contracts.

From April 1st, MTN voice call rates per minute will increase by a 4% average translated to a 10cents per minute rate.

Out of bundle rates, including SMS rates will also increase to R 0.32 per MB and R 0.35 per SMS message.

Monthly subscription fees on consumer cellular contracts will see a 5.1% increase.

Cell C

Cell C was quick on the announcement of their price increases as the provider made the announcement in December 2022 for their subscription fee hikes.

Cell C’s increase averages between 5% and 6% with some as high as 12.7%.

Those with deal prices, will be affected.  Deal prices mean those who bought a device with value added services may need to apply a percentage increase to their current bill.

Vodacom

Vodacom said: “From 1 April 2023, there will be an average tariff plan increase of 6.7%. This only applies to the tariff plan and not the overall bill, meaning there is no change to your handset financing or any value-added services. When it comes to your total bill, this means an average increase of 4.2%.”
