Honor 200 Lite review, we spot looks, and a dazzling backside

There’s  something about Honor’s story in the smartphone market and that story appears to be a once upon a time underdog who is determined to make a statement.

We say that purely based on the knowledge of how far the brand has come since it’s shift in direction from that other, now competitor. This is a good thing.

We get to see a different kind of appeal to the market from Honor. We get to see attempts forward from some of their smartphones which fell short in the past, as they get updated and curated to tick most consumer boxes especially in the mid-tier market, otherwise known as the middle market segment.

This shows growth and growth must continue to be applauded.

What’s this about?

It’s about Honor’s latest entry into the mid-tier market, the Honor 200 Lite.

There’s definitely appeal at first glance. The camera seems thaught out and attractive at first glance. The sparkles in some light thanks to the latest starry blue theme colour from Honor, sets it apart from competitors and the overall grip (accompanied by a metal frame) and weight remains comfortable at 166 grams.

Let’s get into it.

Here’s an Honor 200 lite flaunting a triple-camera setup reminiscent of flagship phones.

Camera

The Honor 200 Lite 5G boasts a 108MP main camera, a 5MP wide and depth camera and a 2MP macro camera.

While the numbers do appear low, you must understand that when it comes to images, processing speed contributes immensely and lenses still have to capture but it’s the device that bakes and cooks your images for the tasteful snapshot as a result.

The main camera brings in competitive clarity in the mid-tier segment, the wide and depth camera accommodates users during those concert, or nature shots where depth creates the image’s artistry.

Before we forget, Honor pinned a 50MP selfie camera right in the center which does show a willingness to follow a winning recipe from Honor.

Performance

Honor brings in a MediaTek Dimensity 6080 processor, 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage.

Battery

The battery comes ready to power consumers the entire day, at 4 500mAh.

Display

The display is a little something we’ve seen before on the market, a 6.7-inch AMOLED display (2412 x 1080 pixels), but a commendable highlight of clear, crisp imagery and bold colours.

We like how it’s display from the Honor 200 Lite is easy on the eye and makes a worthy attempt at keeping dark colours dark.

Price

Price sits at R 9 999, for an interesting addition into the South African market. I wonder what the thoughts were from the design team, and how they decided on the rear colours and how this latest entry would look in 2024.  It’s a decent phone, but decent may be a dangerous spot to be in a competitive middle market.

Final shots

The Honor 200 Lite 5G is a worthy contender in terms of overall aesthetics and camera muscle. This is a good thing. Processing power does need to be looked into as there were some lags now and then and this could be a challenge as the device carries more user information which includes loads of images.

It’s the device that qualifies you into a competent content creator. You’ll get the shot, it’s the editing while the device is carrying a lot that may have the Honor 200 Lite heaving.

An interesting introduction into the SA market, but an interesting addition to the Honor overall story when it comes to all devices braught forward.
