Is the Mercedes-Benz AMG Vision Gran Turismo the best reason for buying GT6?

So, Sony has released the PlayStation 4 and judging by the sales (over one-million units in 24 hours), its proving to be quite popular. Personally though, Iâ€m a little more excited about Gran Turismo 6, due for release in early December. Gran Turismo, the best driving simulator on the planet? You bet, and version 6 promises to be the best yet.

Chief among the long list of reasons to get on the waiting list for GT6 is none other than the opportunity to get your racing mitts wrapped around the steering wheel of this Merc beauty, well figuratively at least. Itâ€s called the Mercedes-Benz AMG Vision Gran Turismo and itâ€s…sorry Iâ€ve gone all emotional.

To mark Gran Turismoâ€s 15th anniversary this year, Kazunori Yamuchi, producer of Gran Turismo, President of polyphony Digital Inc. and all round car nut, basically called up the worldâ€s leading manufacturers and tasked them with designing a concept car with the eye on firmly on tomorrowâ€s technology. Using the theme “Vision Gran Turismo” this is what Mercedes came up with and letâ€s be honest even the gorgeous SLS AMG ainâ€t got nothing on this.

Of course the trademark gullwing doors have made an appearance, again, hopefully with requisite blast hinges in the roof, in case you put it in the weeds and land up on your roof. How cool is that though?

“Yup, my car has explosives in the roof!”
“Why?”
“Who cares!”

Even though the AMG Vision GT is a concept, and an online concept at that, it hasnâ€t stopped the boffins at Merc AMG from releasing a few juicy specs. For starters the V8 biturbo engine delivers 430kW and 800Nm of torque. Nice! Couple that to a 1385 kilogram kerb weight and acceleration should be monumental. Excellent! Fade resistant carbon ceramic brakes will no doubt provide proper stopping power. No Stopping. Powerrr!

Those eight chromed louvers out back, well they arenâ€t there just to look pretty. Those are exhausts, yup eight of them. Tuned for maximum aural enjoyment they should emit a glorious V8 soundtrack. Best you update your surround sound system ASAP to take advantage. Oh, and while youâ€re at it if the budget stretches one of these too.

That gaping mouth up front might look normal — however not much on the AMG Vision Gran Turismo is normal — reminiscent of the legendary 300 SL the grille employs variable LEDs capable of different light patterns.

Inside the Vision GT, youâ€ll find a cabin inspired by a Formula 1 cockpit with racy, red seats which are blended into the floorpan to form a protective shell for the driver. The main instrument panel takes the shape of a floating glass display, showing all relevant info like road speed, engine speed and operating temperatures. Even cooler are the rocker switches on the dashboard and overhead console, just like a fighter jet! Traction control, disengaged!

Okay okay, back to the real world. How do you get your hands on the AMG Vision Gran Turismo? Well, firstly buy the game obviously and secondly get your race face on as the Mercedes-Benz Vision Gran Turismo and others like it will be integrated into the game and unveiled through a series of online updates. Powerrr!
