This is the BMW X4 [Gallery]

Say hello to the X4, freshly unveiled in Geneva by BMW, and apparently the German marque’s bid at hitting the Goldilocks sweet spot for people who think the X3’s just that little bit too small (but at the same time too tall) and the X6 is just a teeny bit too big.

In fact, the driver and front passenger sit 20 millimetres lower than in the BMW X3, with the roofline refactored to be a little more sweepy too. While that’s great if it’s your kind of thing, it’s probably not all that advisable if you plan on regularly transporting adults in the back or even if your kids are particularly tall.

Those are really the most dramatic differentiation points for the X4. Everything else is pretty much standard BMW fare and anyone familiar with the range would recognise it immediately. Customers can choose from three petrol engines and a trio of diesel units from the BMW EfficientDynamics engine family, whose output ranges from 184bhp to 313bhp.

Inside, the tech’s also pretty familiar and include a number of BMW ConnectedDrive features such as Head Up Display, Lane Departure Warning, Active Cruise Control with Stop & Go function, preventive pedestrian protection and a Collision Warning system, which applies the brakes with anything up to maximum stopping power as required.
