Land Rover dramatically teases the new Discovery

Brace yourselves Land Rover fans, the new Discovery is coming. Sort of. The company has announced that it will be unveiling the new Discovery concept at the New York International Auto Show later this month.

According to Land Rover, the new Disco will “showcase the essence of a future family of SUVs built on Land Rover’s key principles of emotive design, unrivalled capability and ultimate versatility, taken to new levels using new customer-focused advanced technologies”. If you can untangle anything coherent from that, congratulations, you have a bright future in PR.

In all seriousness though, a family of Land Rovers based on the discovery platform means that it could be able to replace the Freelander and also have models sitting between the ultra-posh Rover and hardcore Defender without too much extra effort.

Judging from the teaser video Land Rover’s provided to the media, the new model will be a little sleeker than the current Disco and absolutely crammed with tech.

“We have created the Vision Concept,” says Land Rover design director Gerry McGovern, “to share the essence of Land Rover’s new age of Discovery and to debut a new, compelling, relevant design direction that connects on an emotional level with customers of today and tomorrow.”
