When it comes to people carriers, there are few models that have had as long and as successful a run as the Renault Espace.
In the 30 years since the French automaker launched what many consider to be the world’s first multi-purpose-vehicle (MPV), it has built well over a million Espaces.

That’s not at all bad when you consider that the Espace got off to a spectacularly slow start, with customers buying just nine in the first month after it went on sale.
In those 30 years, the Espace has undergone a pretty significant evolution, going from something that you would openly mock any of your friends for driving to a car that very obviously has well thought out design elements.
One thing we find really interesting from the batch of photos Renault has released detailing the Espace’s journey though are all the things it hoped the vehicle would be used for over the years. In particular, the idea that it could easily be used as a mobile office will have anyone who suffers from car-sickness feeling a bout of sympathy nausea.
