Jaguar’s trying to build an in-car infotainment system that doesn’t actually suck

Jag XE infotainment

Things are looking decidedly more geeky at Jaguar, with the British car-maker announcing a completely new infotainment system and a raft of new technologies for the new XE.

It’ll be the former that’s likely to prick most people’s curiosity as they have a habit of being incredibly annoying.

According to Jag, the new infotainment system is designed to be as intuitive as possible and provide quick, easy access to all features and functions. Despite the fact that it centers around an eight-inch touchscreen, Jaguar plans to provide this access by ensuring that people can access any function they need using voice guidance.

Cleverly, Jaguar hasn’t pegged its bets on its drivers only using Android or iOS devices, with its InControl Remote allowing users of both mobile operating systems to connect to the car from wherever they are and control a range of vehicle functions.

By mirroring certain smartphone functions on the car’s touchscreen meanwhile, drivers can, for instance, make a conference call, find a parking space or book a hotel room. The XE also functions as a Wi-Fi hotspot, enabling multiple devices to connect to the internet – the vehicle antenna provides the best possible signal.

In addition to the infotainment system, the new XE is set to come with a laser head-up display (HUD), providing the driver with information such as speed and navigation instructions with maximum clarity and minimum distraction. As well as better image quality, Jaguar claims the laser HUD is smaller and almost a third lighter than existing systems.

Jag’s produced a video to explain the new technologies and well it looks quite cool it’s not all that likely to get your heart racing.
